Each year we help City of Bristol College Graphic Design and Multi-media students understand the world of advertising by setting them a brief.

Meeting the Team

The students and their tutor, Alistair Myers, visit our Bristol office to meet the team and find out what goes into creating a successful advertising campaign, from brief right through to final delivery. We then set them their own brief to work on, usually for one of our client’s products, and then meet with them after a few weeks to see how they are progressing.

“Our students have been working with Stuff for over 6 years. During this period, the hands on experience, guidance and feedback given by them has been invaluable, offering students great insight into strategy building, developing creative responses and preparing to present their concepts.

The opportunity to pitch their ideas to a client provides students crucial experience in communicating concepts, building confidence and deepening their understanding of the creative process. Everyone at Stuff has been both enthusiastic and committed, assisting our budding designers on their creative journey, and preparing them for careers in the industry.” Alastair Myers -Lecturer, Graphic Design with Interactive Multimedia

Once we’ve reviewed their initial concepts we help them choose the best route to develop, ahead of a final presentation of their campaigns to the agency. Wherever possible we also get the client involved in judging the final work, which helps the students understand some of the real world challenges they will face if they decide to pursue a career in the industry.

The Brief

In previous years we have asked students to produce campaigns for Miss Millie’s and Trunki. This year we set the students a brief focusing on the pet food sector, an area we have a great deal of experience with due to our ongoing work with Royal Canin. Each student is free to choose their own product to advertise and we are excited to see what a fresh pair of eyes and young minds will create.

All of the work produced counts towards the student’s final course grades and we also reward the best students with a work placement at Stuff. This is now our 6th year of working with City of Bristol College and during this time we’ve helped a great number of students on their journey to a career in the creative industry. In fact one of the previous winners, Jack Blanchard, is now a designer at Trunki!

“My experience at Stuff was the first stepping stone to my professional career. The team not only provided me with a thorough understanding of how an advertising campaign is crafted and executed, but also gave me some useful design tips during mentoring sessions.” Jack –  Now Graphics Genius at Trunki.
